Fresh App: Listen to FLAC Music Files in iTunes Using Fluke

How many audiophiles do we have out there? For the few that raised their hands, I am almost positive that you are using something other than iTunes to manage your superior-quality, FLAC audio. I’m going to tell you about a fresh, new application called Fluke that’s going to change the way you manage and play your FLAC audio files.

Introduction

Fluke is what I like to call an “inline application.” By this, I mean it’s an application that plays the middle-man role that’s sometimes needed to get another application to do what it wasn’t intended to do. In this case, iTunes wasn’t intended to manage or play FLAC audio files and that’s where Fluke comes in. When you install Fluke, you’re installing the ability to work with FLAC files within iTunes.

Behind the Scenes

For the curious, Fluke is a specialized installer and glues the following libraries together:

Installation of Fluke

To get started with Fluke, download and install Fluke from Cubic Fruit.

After installing Fluke, simply restart iTunes. That’s it! Now you can manage and play your FLAC audio files from within iTunes. All the magic is done behind the scenes and Fluke does all the heavy lifting.

Final Thoughts

You will feel a little bit of a delay between FLAC songs but it’s hardly noticeable and it’s certainly worth being able to play superior-quality FLAC audio files within iTunes. I have been using Fluke for about two weeks now and I haven’t experienced so much as a hiccup.

Fluke is developed by Dmitry Kichenko and is a free download. We’d also recommend checking out Dmitry’s blog, earpick.

Hey, very nice idea.... Now, does it include the ability to burn flac files to a cd inside of iTunes?
